3D REQUEST & REVIEW
YOUR GUIDE FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION ABOUT 3D FILES
This training covers the basics of communication around 3D files. With a big focus on everyone working in Product Development, but also applicable for anyone who needs to communicate effectively using 3D tools.
We will start with a basic introduction to 3D and the workflow of requesting vendor files, followed by the steps of preparing & sending out these requests. In the end we'll show you how to review the files in the 3D software. You'll get an understanding of the basics of reading 3D garments, and which things to look out for in 3D files.
In this training, we will cover the following topics:
-
INTRODUCTION TO THE WORKFLOW
-
VISUAL ASSESSMENT
-
ALL SET UP?
-
REQUEST FORM
-
SHARING ASSETS
-
STYLEZONE PLATFORM
-
FILE ASSESSMENT
-
EXERCISE TIME!
We will guide you through all the steps using videos, text and images. This allows you to complete the training at your own speed, and repeat it as many times as you like!
In on-site group sessions, this training takes roughly 3 hours.
We highly recommend to follow our basic trainings for VStitcher
(start with Prep School) before you start this training ❗
This training does include a basic introduction to 3D, but will quickly dive into more technical terms. So if everything is starting to sound a bit too abstract and complicated near the end of this training: we recommend to complete our basic trainings first!
💥 REQUIRED SOFTWARE - INSTALLATION 🔥
In order to follow our trainings, you need to install two software packages on your laptop: "Browzwear (August Edition)" and "Design Hub Plugins"
If the software is not available in your Self service / Software center,
you need to request the software via Topdesk. Please contact PVH
Tech support if you have any issues with installing the software.
* Make sure you're logged in when using the Self Service!

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION TO THE WORKFLOW
1.1 - PVH VENDOR WORKFLOW ♻️
To streamline the process of requesting, receiving and assessing 3D files from your vendors, PVH created a high-level workflow which you can find below. It starts with requesting the 3D file, and we finish with a completed digital prototype.
We'd like to mention that this training is intended for both brands & all divisions. So it's more of a guideline - rather than a fixed or definite process. Here, we provide you with all the essentials to own the workflow, so you're fully equipped to accelerate your team's workflow in 3D! Use it as a base to build upon, to define your own ideal process.
PVH submits
a 3D request
Vendor accepts request and creates 3D file
Vendor submits the 3D file
PVH assesses
the 3D file
❌
3D file is declined?
🔁
Re-submission!
3D file is approved

1.2 - DOCUMENTS 📝
We have created 2 templates to simplify the process of requesting & assessing 3D files, which we will use later on during this training. We will explain and use the request form in Chapter 6 of this training, and the assessment form will be covered in detail in Chapter 7.
Click on the document icons above to download the templates.
1.3 - REQUEST TYPES 📊
The request form and the assessment form are based on the different types of requests you can send out to your vendors. We defined 5 different types of requests, each with a different input, output, complexity and turnaround time.
The 5 request types in a brief overview:
REQUEST A NEW STYLE
Request digitization of new seasonal style
(there is no existing pattern or 3D block)
Turnaround time*
7-10 days

NEW STYLE
Output from vendor
3D prototype following guidelines
REQUEST A NEW BLOCK
Request creation of a 3D block
(based on an existing pattern)
Turnaround time*
2 days

BLOCK
Output from vendor
Blank 3D block following guidelines
REQUEST A NEW PATTERN
Request digitization of a style pattern
(based on an existing pattern)
Turnaround time*
2 days

PATTERN
Output from vendor
3D prototype following guidelines
REQUEST A NEW SEASONAL STYLE
Request seasonal style based on existing 3D block
(no pattern changes, only design detailing)
Turnaround time*
2 styles per day
SEASONAL
STYLE
Output from vendor
3D prototype with correct fabrics,
trims, colors and design details

REQUEST A NEW COLORWAY
Request additional colorway based on existing 3D style
(no pattern changes, only design detailing)
Turnaround time*
Min. 5 colorways per day
COLORWAY
Output from vendor
Same seasonal style in more colors

* Turnaround times are subjected to the complexity of the style and volume
For a more detailed overview of these request types, please refer to the '3D Vendor Toolbox'. It will give you more information including benefits, what the vendors need from you and examples of each request type.
The last two request types (outlined in blue) don't require any pattern adjustments, and are therefore 'easier' to request & review than the other three types of requests. Which means that these two requests are perfect way to get started with your vendors:
You will gain experience in "how to read" a 3D garment through reviewing colorways and other design details, instead of immediately having to review things like stitching, construction and simulation quality of a 3D file;
Your vendors will gain experience in using the 3D software, allowing them to improve their skills in "simple" requests instead of immediately having to create complex styles;
You and your vendors are able to establish a smooth workflow together,
before handling more complex styles.
That's why we recommend you to start with sending out these types of requests before diving straight into the more complicated request types. Below a brief overview of both 'categories' of requests. The first one is for the requests that do include working with patterns, the second one is for the requests that don't require any pattern changes.
CATEGORY 1
Includes working with patterns
REQUEST TYPES
New Style request
Block request
Pattern request
COMPLEXITY
Skilled in 3D
CATEGORY 2
REQUEST TYPES
Seasonal Style request
Colorway request
COMPLEXITY
New to 3D
No pattern changes needed
❗ NOTICE ❗
Keep in mind that we don't encourage starting with block/style/pattern requests.
These requests require a high level of 3D skills from your vendor, as well as a deep
understanding of 3D files & how the software works, in order for you to review the files.
If you still want to start immediately with those requests, you can of course follow our basic trainings for VStitcher to give your own 3D knowledge & skills a boost!
